Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LINKEDIN here if ya like or email me at seanmcnultynyc@gmail.com), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on WEDNESDAY, April 16, 2025.
Where its heartening to know that even one of the biggest names in finance apparently wants to be in our esteemed industry once his Wall Street days are over.
JPMORGAN CHASE’s CEO Jamie Dimon told the FT that after he leaves the bank (timeline still TBA), he is considering “a little media thing” as his next endeavor.
Of course, he also then vaguely described it as something that could either be “a competitor or an aid” to the news publishing business 🥴 . . . and as “something I think all the papers should be doing.” More to come.
So media biz — at least take comfort that your allure still exists among the, uh, near 70-years-old set! Either that, or Jamie is starting a Substack.
AND: Ya gotta admire Zuck’s dealmaking acumen with the FTC. The government arm was demanding $30B to settle the pending antitrust matter, to which Zuck came back with . . . $450M, and maybe one of his really nice watches.
Things then progressed on the FTC’s end to $18B and a consent decree of some sort from META according to the WSJ, to which Zuck apparently came back with . . . nearly $1B, and maybe a gold necklace as well. Maybe.
Needless to say, Zuck has been on the stand for the past 2 days in the antitrust trial.
#GOODNEWS: OPENAI is exploring the creation of a new social network, in case the current 6 major ones that we have which are increasingly full of AI-generated content just aren’t doing it for ya.
REST IN PEACE: Goes out to TV game-show host royalty, as Wink Martindale died at the age of 91 this week. Thanks for the many fond elementary school summer vacation morning TV memories watching Tic-Tac-Dough and High Rollers.
