☀️Massive layoffs hitting SNAP as NETFLIX grabs their top 2 Ad execs
A24 sets Nic Cage movie / DISNEY makes unexpected INDIA Cricket move / WAPO biz declines in post Trump era
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on WEDNESDAY August 31, 2022.
Where it’s a bad year for 40something - 20something relationships… I know weird for HOLLYWOOD right?🤷♂️
First Zach Braff & Florence Pugh ended things earlier this year, and now Leo and 25 year-old model/actress Camila Morrone have called it quits after 4 (ish) years. I mean if those kids can’t make it… Tho wait - that means he was 43 and she was… 21 when they started dating doesn’t it? 😳
PLUS: Laura Linney is returning to BROADWAY to star in the play “Summer, 1976”, a new work from Pulitzer winner David Auburn (“Proof”) about the friendship between two OHIO women, one an iconoclastic artist & single mom, and the other a naive young housewife. Previews begin in April.
ALSO: As if you needed a reminder of the power of the global reach of NETFLIX - it was even able to overpower BAD BUNNY, as KATE BUSH’s “Running Up That Hill” was the most streamed song on SPOTIFY this Summer in the US.
THO: NETFLIX is not as powerful as HARRY STYLES (come on now…) since “As It Was” had the top spot globally, with KATE BUSH at number 2, and BAD BUNNY’s “Me Porto Bonito” at number 3 (“I’ll behave myself” for any felling aspiring Spanish speakers).
AND: The VENICE FILM FEST begins today.
BUT: Let’s put an ol’ MTV 90s-style 10 spot on me finally not writing a newsletter tomorrow. And I hate losing money to myself so VENICE don’t you go making news on me.
