WGA, AMPTP set tentative deal / AMAZON MGM restructures TV team / NBC puts comedies on NETFLIX
Evenin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LINKEDIN here if ya like or email me at seanmcnultynyc@gmail.com), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on SUNDAY, April 5, 2026.
Where I have some chocolate to attend to, so let’s get to it. Hope those of you celebrating with family this weekend are having a relaxing Sunday.
ALSO: CINEMA UNITED sent a letter to the National Association of Attorneys General, asking them to block the WARNAMOUNT deal, saying essentially this is DISNEYFOX 2.0.
AND: The WGA and AMPTP have set a tentative agreement on a new 4-year deal (up from the usual 3). No real details on the rate bumps, nor any mention of the term AI — but the WGA said it “protects our health plan” and has gains around “free work.” So, more to come.
The two sides have been negotiating for the past 3 weeks.
DGA talks currently have a May 11 start date, although SAG-AFTRA still needs a bit more time with the AMPTP, which it was planning to do in June — so we’ll see if things get reshuffled a bit this month.
THEN: Just a little #funfact for any fellow 30 Rock die-hard fans that I was not previously aware of — Olivia Munn was originally cast in the Avery Jessup role before Baldwin thought she was a bit too young for the role. Elizabeth Banks ended up with the part.
