Hello again everyone! Even though the Prestige Junkie podcast has only been alive a few short weeks, I’ve tried to avoid doubling up on interviews in a single episode so as not to overwhelm you, my dear listeners.
But when I had the opportunity for back-to-back conversations with Abbott Elementary stars Lisa Ann Walter and Sheryl Lee Ralph — which meant I could ask them about each other and about their “work wife” relationship — how could I resist? The actresses are industry veterans and active SAG members, with so much to say about the future of the acting profession, about how hard it can be to say no to work after years of struggle — and even the best movies on TCM.
You’ll hear my conversation with both of them, but first you’ll hear me and this week’s guest co-host David Sims (The Atlantic, as well as the Blank Check podcast) wonder what the massive success of Inside Out 2 means for this summer’s sputtering box office, as well as the future of Disney as a whole.
We also indulge in some way-in-advance Oscar prognosticating about the best animated feature race, where Inside Out 2 is sure to be nominated but will face some major competition from DreamWorks Animation’s The Wild Robot, which was officially added to the Toronto International Film Festival lineup after we recorded.
