On Friday, to close out the conversation on this week’s Emmy nominations, I went live on Substack with Christopher Rosen to unleash our final hot takes on this year’s nods. For Chris, all signs point to a possible Severance domination — and not just because of the show’s 27 nominations, the most of any series this year (and nearly double what the Apple drama received for season 1).
“The thought was maybe The Pitt could win best drama on enthusiasm for the show, but The Pitt missed a nomination for editing,” Chris says of the HBO Max series thought to be Severance’s top competition. “The only drama winner without an editing nomination since 2010 is The Handmaid’s Tale. So if The Pitt is to win, it would have to do something very unique.”
Elsewhere in our conversation, Chris argues for more Severance wins (including acting awards for Tramell Tillman and Britt Lower), and I explain why the cancel-culture drama After the Hunt might have Andrew Garfield back in the Oscar race (fingers crossed, at least!).
