Evenin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on SUNDAY, October 6, 2024.
Where it’s nice when the unpredictability of Hollywood . . . is matched by the unpredictability of sports.
While there are certainly many movies getting considerable buzz so far in the Oscar race — I don’t think there’s a pundit out there who would confidently place any real money on a frontrunner, or even maybe a top 3 at this point, making for a very exciting season.
And in sports — when #1 ALABAMA loses to unranked VANDERBILT, and the GIANTS beat the SEAHAWKS, one of the best teams in the NFL this season so far in the same weekend . . . well, as my mom would say, time to buy a lottery ticket.
WELL: Remove one '80s remake project from the big board — AMAZON put the kibosh on its development of a Who’s the Boss remake from SONY TV.
It also killed a Bosch spin-off around Jamie Hector’s character.
AND: Donald Glover has canceled the rest of his Childish Gambino tour:
WAKEUP BOX OFFICE POLL
The bears definitely won out on Joker Folie A Deux, well done 37%.
SEAN ON THE TOWN, PT1: A big thanks to the Hamptons Int’l Film Festival for the invitation to moderate a couple of panels this weekend — one was for the new Kenneth Cole doc A Man with SOUL: The Impact of Kenneth Cole with Kenneth and director Dori Berinstein, and a second panel was looking at the state of the independent film business in 2024 with a great lineup of folks on the theatrical frontlines.
SEAN ON THE TOWN PT. 2: A second thanks goes out to FX for the invite to check out the new limited series Say Nothing tonight in NYC, centered on a not very well known story from the Troubles in Ireland, told over many years. Can’t wait to watch the rest of the series on Nov. 14 — great cast here as well.
