☀️How ABC-ESPN handled the NFL shocker last night
APPLE TV+ gets new Marketing head / AVATAR2 beats BP2 in just 3 weeks / NETFLIX's fitness play with NIKE
Mornin! or Afternoon! if you’re here with me in NYC. This is Sean McNulty and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on TUESDAY January 3, 2023.
Where as you’ve already heard, and possibly saw for yourself last night - it was an unprecedented game in the modern era of the NFL… where 24 year-old BUFFALO BILLS safety Damar Hamlin’s heart stopped after a blunt collision in the first quarter of the BILLS / BENGALS game last night, requiring on-field CPR from the health experts of the standby ambulance team at the stadium to re-start his heart, and get him to the hospital which was thankfully about 2 miles away.
He was actually the 2nd NFL player in league history to collapse of a heart attack on the field - DETROIT LIONS player Chuck Hughes died of a heart attack at 28 years-old on the field against the BEARS in 1971, after a hit apparently caused a blood clot to become loose and impede an already clogged artery, with Hughes collapsing a few plays after the hit, and medical personnel not able to revive him.
He had also unfortunately suffered an undiagnosed heart attack a few months earlier when he collapsed on the field in the pre-season, which was obviously also a large factor in his death as well.
For anyone curious, Dr. David Agus had a good medical analysis on CBS Mornings on how a blunt chest trauma can cause cardiac arrest.
If you weren’t watchging the game, I break down how it played out live on TV last night, and the wisely cautious approach taken by ABC / ESPN below.
ALSO: Jeremy Renner is still in intensive care after undergoing orthopedic chest surgery in Reno, NV, following his snow plowing-related accident this weekend.
AND ON A HAPPIER NOTE: Robin Roberts is going to marry her partner Amber Laign this year, and Sara Bareilles is now engaged to her longtime boyfriend, actor Joe Tippett.
