Mornin! This is Sean McNulty and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on MONDAY August 1, 2022.

Where uh, brand new month! Same Ad cutbacks? We’ll find out more starting on Wednesday. Otherwise yeah - let’s just get to it shall we?

August amirite? Via Giphy

ALSO: HBOMAX once again streamed me brand Ads for both PEACOCK and FREEVEE this weekend several times (btw for the record - ya’ll stuffed a lotta Ads into just one episode of the new Paul Newman-Joanne Woodward docuseries 🙄).

Given the rather clunky & clearly not curated SVOD ad supported experience that’s currently out there…

TWISTED TEA beach party Ad with AC/DC music thrown into Paul Newman’s years at the Actors Studio in the 50’s? Yeah that seems like Ad demo money well spent.

I gotta think the runway for NETFLIX to do this right, and again set an industry-leading standard is out there for the taking.

A high bar given the 3rd party elements to navigate? Yes. But even just not showing me several Ads for rival services would be a step in the right direction 🤯.

AND: A congrats to Gina Rodriguez who announced she’s pregnant with her first baby, with husband Joe LoCicero.

IN THIS EDITION:

  • WBD axes another content genre from HBOMAX ahead of likely a big week of that kinda thing.

  • McConaughey sets first pic in 4 years.

  • Anybody wanna revive “Tomb Raider” again? 🤷‍♂️

  • VICE in talks for a new owner, and more.
