☀️#Glicked Gets Great But Not Golden Start
NBA's TV audience loss persists / Armie Hammer resurfaces in pic / APPLE 'Wolfs' sequel over
Evenin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like or email me at seanmcnultynyc@gmail.com), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on SUNDAY, November 24, 2024.
Where I mean, at least the GIANTS are consistent in their horrible playing no matter who is quarterbacking? 🤷♂️
Look, folks, it’s a little bit like trying to find the bright side in the Joker numbers — you take what you can get (🙋♂️ any way we can also lay off 25% of the GIANTS season on a private equity-backed firm?)
AND: Bob Iger indeed sold the $43M worth of DISNEY stock that he nodded to doing about a week ago (I told him the BILLS were a lock over the CHIEFS . . . but Bob always just says “Okay, gif guy 🙄” and does his own thing).
Iger and Willow Bay pledged to invest an additional $50M in L.A.’s ANGEL CITY FC NWSL ⚽️ to support “future growth” as part of their acquisition of the team earlier this year.
PLUS: AMAZON is dumping investing another $4B into the ANTHROPIC AI (“Claude”) company while it further intertwines with its AWS arm. This after putting a separate $2.75B into it earlier in the year.
HUH: Yeah AI really IS learning the ways of humans pretty fast — OPENAI “accidentally” deleted potential evidence in the NY TIMES lawsuit. Well played, GPT.
THEN: A recommended #goodread from the NYT today, which looks at the members of a girl’s high school basketball team in rural Tennessee at a school for troubled teen girls, 12 years after a Times reporter chronicled the team.
Just a great reminder that I always find incredibly valuable myself to keep in mind about the fact that most people don’t grow up with advantages that many of us enjoyed, especially when we talk about “people’s” behaviors in America today . . . and not keeping in mind what many folks are dealing with on a day-to-day basis.
WAKEUP BOX OFFICE POLL
The 28% that I knew I should have joined came out victorious this weekend on Wicked:
The Gladiator bears won out:
FINALLY: If you’re really still not entirely sure WTF went down at COMCAST last week, a thank you to Sonny Bunch for inviting me on his The Bulwark Goes to Hollywood pod to talk through the particulars and what’s ahead in, uh, real talk.

🎥 THE BOX OFFICE
#Glicked is off to a strong start . . . perhaps not quite as strong as some lofty hopes going into the weekend — but there’s zero to complain about here with about 12M tickets sold between the 2 of them according to ENTELLIGENCE.
Also, considering the running times of these 2 movies — gotta say the big predictions were always a bit of an X factor (an instinct I shoulda stuck with for my own Wicked prediction).
