“Gelson’s is gone.” That’s what Rob Long heard the TV newscaster say solemnly as he watched flames engulf the grocery store. Rob loved that now burned-down market off Sunset in the Palisades, now in the midst of catastrophic loss. All kinds of industry folk — executives, crews, a couple of famous faces — also did. Now with an industry-wide contraction, he understands you might be asking yourself: “Is it time to go?” But the industry’s best trait has always been to ignore and adjust. And start again.

Thank you for spotlighting Gelson’s. My father Miguel worked there for over 30 years and was the guy you went up to in an aisle to say hi and wind up chatting with until checkout. So many industry locals just adored him and that store. My heart breaks for the staff and community that considered it a beloved place to shop and hang out. My heart bleeds for the Palisades, it’s like losing a loved one.
Can anybody tell me how to get the transcript on this? I see the words "transcript here" but it's not a hot link. Is there no transcript and I have to listen? Thanks to anybody with an answer.
