Seinfeld NETFLIX pic opening flops / APPLE TV+ Marketing head out / Latest DISH cord-cutting #s
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on WEDNESDAY, May 8, 2024.
Where, good news! NYC has more millionaires. Sorry — I meant good news for them, not (most of) you. Lest we forget, millionaires are, of course, a very lonely people . . . I’m told. Usually by millionaires.
But yes, about 1 out of every 24 people in NYC is worth at least a cool million 💰, up from 1 out of every 36 in 2013. Oddly enough, they all live in the Bronx!
No wait — they’ve all only stepped foot in the Bronx to walk from their Uber or car service to get into their YANKEES game luxury box.
AS EXPECTED: TIKTOK sued the U.S. government over the forced-sale law.
ALTHOUGH: This new #goodread report from Rest of World interviewed roughly a dozen current and former U.S. TT employees who confirmed that China BYTEDANCE execs were indeed calling the shots for many departments at U.S. TIKTOK, so yeah — this probably is not helping that lawsuit.
AND: Barry Diller’s IAC has cut a licensing deal with ChatGPT to provide DOTDASH MEREDITH editorial content. No terms were disclosed.
Diller had previously suggested that AI was an existential threat to the business of news publishers, and that they should band together and sue for unauthorized use of their content.
IN THIS EDITION:
#Medianerd🤓 dives into the FOX numbers, which is the only company that offers 💰 visibility into the state of the broadcast TV business — which gives us some pretty important things to note vs. the state of the cable TV business.
Even more important as folks try and sort out the importance — and 💰 value — of another broadcast TV network at a company full of cable TV networks (👋 PARAMOUNT).
Plus the latest TUBI insight (no, they’re still not telling us how much money it ya know, makes), SPORTS HULU updates and more.
Despite headlines out there otherwise — looking at the comps for the NETFLIX Seinfeld Unfrosted pic opening show . . . well, not great Jerry. Plus — what 2014 WB pic beat it in the U.S. last week.
Also the latest Cannes market projects, fall TV pickups and cancellations and a lot otherwise to - on with the show.
#medianerd🤓’s week o’ fun continues
