☀️DISNEY's MNF Shift Ends Cable-NFL Lock
NETFLIX's big TIFF & TELLURIDE pic buys / Layoffs hit WWE / LGF suspends producer deals
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on TUESDAY September 19, 2023.
Where as you readers may know — I love nothing more than a good theme or metaphor… but even this is a bit too on the nose.
AS I’M SURE YOU’VE HEARD: The WGA & AMPTP will meet again at the bargaining table tomorrow, four weeks after their last meeting. Black Tie optional.
AND: An organized effort to raise money from WGA showrunners to help out those in need has netted $500k so far from over 250 folks, all of which will go into the ENTERTAINMENT COMMUNITY FUND.
THEN: The GOLDEN GLOBES will be produced by OSCAR duo Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner… wherever the show airs streams (though currently with three months away, no rights deal has been announced). /Variety
PLUS: If you’re submitting anything to TRIBECA next year (June 5-16), here are the deadlines to keep in mind for films, shorts, games and audio projects.
ALSO: Hmm… what one service isn’t on NIELSEN’s Gauge in the US for August? I guess everyone was too busy actually going to the Messi games? Not having a licensed library of Studio product definitely hurts in this metric.
IN TODAY’S EDITION:
It… almost feels like before times! A good deal of both movie and TV news to go around. And more layoffs and deal suspensions of course. I mean the 2020s entertainment business can only change so much.
And yet — it keeps taking leaps and bounds. Some key numbers to consider as DISNEY essentially drops Monday Night Football’s cable TV bundle exclusivity for the rest of the season.
NETFLIX keeps the indie film market alive with 2 more Fall film fest purchases, and much more.
