☀️DISNEY pinkslips hit Marketing & Comms; YOUTUBE $ falls short again
NETFLIX sets Animated Films plan as Films chart hits a lull week / Obamas hire new Prez / AMAZON sets new Film Distro head
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on WEDNESDAY April 26, 2023.
Where yes, it’s been an exciting week in the business (to put it… one way), but I gotta say - nothing quite matches the excitement you get from several news reports describing what new trailers look like. Gotta love CINEMACON.
I’ve requested at least a visual photo update on the new fun movie theater snacks from the Ankler crew on the ground in Vegas for tomorrow’s newsletter - we’ll see if Richard & Elaine come thru in the clutch.
ALSO: The U.K.’s antitrust watchdog division (The Competition and Markets Authority) ruled against allowing the MICROSOFT-ACTIVISION deal to go through. The much larger EU and US regulatory bodies still have yet to chime in here… but this certainly throws a wrench into the proceedings.
IN TODAY’S EDITION:
DISNEY Layoffs reach into marketing & comms groups, as well as Unscripted. The latest list.
NETFLIX Films sets Animation plan for next 2 years.
A 2017 UNI dud tops the NETFLIX US Film chart… as a new NETFLIX rom-com fails to make an impression with its debut. A dive into this week’s TOP 9 list.
YOUTUBE’s downward $$ trends continue, as does GOOGLE’s complete silence about anything else related to this business 🤐.
The Obamas hire a new HIGHER GROUND leader as AMAZON sets new Film Distro head and more.
AGAIN: Tomorrow’s newsletter will be a bit later than usual, with a busy morning of earnings calls.
