☀️ DISNEY Hikes Price AGAIN as Kimmel Scores
NETFLIX, A24 set new projects / PAR adds Trump 1.0 antitrust exec / WGA gets new leaders
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LINKEDIN here if ya like or email me at seanmcnultynyc@gmail.com), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
Where just in case there was any doubt that SINCLAIR and NEXSTAR would not look like even bigger jackasses this morning . . . yes, I’m sure we’re all glad they protected 22% of the country from the dangerous speech and ideas that ABC broadcast last night.
Have fun with the comms maneuvering this week, fellas — and if they keep the ban going, the business affairs folks may have a few conversations about addressing some breach of affiliate contract matters that could come about.
Also, this video is already closing in on 10M views within its first 10 hours. Typical Kimmel monologues get about 2M to 3M views.
YES: Hopefully that link is helpful for those of you in shaded-out areas of this map today, who perhaps enjoyed a 15-minute weather segment last night, or whatever local news additions SINCLAIR and NEXSTAR put on their stations.
AND: Add Joe Rogan to those echoing Ted Cruz’s sentiments on Brendan Carr’s great strategy here — namely, hey, guy . . . you know precedent goes both ways, right? — while Rogan also called Trump’s extensive use of his time posting on social media about late-night TV hosts “insane” and “crazy.”
Shockingly, Trump doubled down: “I think we’re going to test ABC out on this. Let’s see how we do. Last time I went after them, they gave me $16 Million Dollars. This one sounds even more lucrative.”
For the cheap seats in Corporate America — it’s just going to be another 3+ years of horseshit that you can do little to stop coming your way. How you deal with it is in your hands.
This morning’s recipient of a fresh 💩 delivery seems to be American soybean farmers.
BUT: I guess it’s reassuring that no First Amendment crisis is too big to get in the way of the now annual DISNEY October streaming price hikes? More on that below — including the new 💰 that’ll be coming in the door — but essentially:
DISNEY will have made back any lost Jimmy Kimmel ad money in about 4 seconds once these new higher prices hit the credit card bills that most Americans seemingly do not look at.
AH: META is contributing “tens of millions” 💰 to a new super PAC dedicated to fighting off “onerous” AI and tech bills across America, with the catch name of the AMERICAN TECHNOLOGY EXCELLENCE PROJECT.
YAH: APPLE TV+ postponed its Jessica Chastain domestic terrorism series The Savant, which was set to debut this Friday (no new date has been set).
SO: Mr. Beast’s BEAST INDUSTRIES has lost money in each of the last 3 years, including a -$110M result in 2024 alone, according to a new Bloomberg profile — essentially the video revenue losses exceed the candy / consumer products profits. The company employs about 350 folks (200 in video).
THEN: COSM L.A. (and Dallas) will be showing its next movie in partnership with WB after The Matrix this summer — Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory will debut Nov. 21. Tix on sale here now.
PLUS: BETMGM is closing its betting location outside of Nationals Park in D.C. after 3 years of operation, as people discovered something called a “gambling app” that they could just use on their phones. 🤷♂️
ALSO: Your new WGA officials are set — see you at the 2026 negotiations (well, the AMPTP will).
Prez: Michele Mulroney (current guild VP)
VP: Travis Donnelly
Secretary-Treasurer: Peter Murrieta
Board members: Adam Conover, Rob Forman, Molly Nussbaum, Maggie Levin, Marguerite MacIntyre, Matt Ross, Mike Royce, and Myles Warden.
FINALLY: We’ll round out the top here with something fun from the final 12:35 a.m. show we still have — watching Bowen and Matt name music divas based on one-second music clips during Day Drinking with Seth is reason enough to watch alone.
