Evenin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like or email me at seanmcnultynyc@gmail.com), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on SUNDAY, January 12, 2025.
Where I’m gonna guess FANDUEL’s Q4 NFL bad luck is going to continue into Q1, as the favorites once again have dominated this weekend in the . . . pretty boring NFL Wildcard games thus far (even the EAGLES 22-10 win over the PACKERS wasn’t that close).
Hopefully, the COMMANDERS vs. BUCS game tonight or VIKINGS vs. RAMS tomorrow can turn the tide.
PLUS: A FireAid benefit concert has been set for Thursday, Jan. 30 at the INTUIT DOME in L.A. — acts TBA.
ALSO: The PGA Awards pushed back its nominations announcement from today for at least another week / date TBA.
THEN: NETFLIX pushed the debut of With Love, Meghan on the service from Wednesday to Mar. 4.
AND: Tim Cook made $74.6M in FY24 ($58M was in stock). That’s up from $63M in 2023, but down from $99M in 2022.
OR: Tim Cook made about $237M in 3 years (before taxes, of course). So yeah, he’s good for that $1M Trump Inauguration donation.
OH: META was revealed to have used a “shadow library” of pirated books that originated in Russia to train its AI bots. This came from documents unsealed in a lawsuit brought by a group of authors over copyright infringement.
AH: Here is your return date/next round of hosts for SNL, including some Dylan covers in a couple of Saturdays.
FINALLY: While the celebrity real estate stories seem to be well covered — we know that there are many other folks across the industry out there struggling right now, and The Ankler wants to hear your stories, experiences and thoughts about what’s ahead for you as a result of the wildfires in L.A. at this link here.
All notes are welcome, we are keeping folks affected out there in our thoughts and hope to share some of your stories in the weeks ahead.
BONUS: I’ll call this my Irish roots coming out to find some humor in dark times — but this appearance by comedian Pete Lee on The Tonight Show a few days after he lost his house in the fires gave me a needed laugh, and even feel a bit inspired by the end of the conversation, so I figured I’d share with anyone inclined here as well.
