Evenin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on SUNDAY, July 28, 2024.
Where if you want a good snapshot of just what goes into that cherished Rotten Tomatoes critics rating in 2024 — look no further than the summation list of Deadpool & Wolverine reviews.
The movie actually stands at 80% fresh in the critics RT rating. That’s comprised of 298 reviews; I’d wager you’ve never heard of 95% of the sources. Judging by the tone and prose in several of these reviews, I’d also wager that a not-insignificant portion of that lot are people I’d want to avoid discussing movies with at a party (or a junket).
Deadpool’s RT audience score? 97% fresh. Think I’ll go hang with these folks instead.
PLUS: NBC already brought back “Roundball Rock” this weekend, playing the famed NBA theme song on the network as it promoted the return of the NBA in fall 2025, during today’s Team USA vs. SERBIA 🏀 game.
AND: Despite rhetoric out there this month, and even this past week indicating what sounded like significant gaps between the two sides on some items — the Teamsters set a tentative deal with the AMPTP, with all Hollywood Basic Crafts reaching a 🤝 with a little less than a week before the deadline.
WAKEUP BOX OFFICE POLL
The bulls majority wins big time this weekend 🙌. So, if we can get a little something extra out of Trap, or more likely It Ends With Us or Alien in August . . . we may be doing alright here to round out the summer — especially if Deadpool can become the buzzworthy movie to see (and see again) in August at anywhere near Barbie levels from last year.
