☀️CINEWORLD's Studio debts revealed as Bankruptcy plan hits slight snag
WME gets new Chairmen / Crypto vanishes from NFL ads / Handmaid's Tale sets endgame, sequel future
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on FRIDAY September 9, 2022.
Where all the talk of gambling app marketing cutbacks was… not evident on NBC’s NFL 2022 Season Kickoff last night. Although strangely - no crypto ads. Did something change from February?
ALSO: Nice to see HULU pulling this chestnut of an Ad strategy in the game last night:
“We now realize we chose a crappy name for our virtual cable bundle service so… we’re going to make fun of it even though we focus grouped the hell out of it when we came up with it … and had 3 months of meetings around it… and were confident that it was the best name.”
Didn’t work for BUD LIGHT SELTZER, but hey I guess worth a shot.
AND: Would have been nice to see an ad for the DISNEYFOX movie “Barbarian” that’s opening today and has very hot word of mouth. But alas…
OF COURSE: Condolences go out to the UK and the Royal Family today naturally (King Charles will make his address at 1p ET today, PREMIERE LEAGUE is also postponed this weekend), and also worth remarking that legendary CNN anchor Bernard Shaw also died at the age of 82.
NEW ANKLER HOT SEAT pod is up today with Janice, Richard, Tatiana and yours truly discussing the scene up at TIFF as Richard & Tatiana arrived in town, the Austerity measures that are taking hold across Tech and Hollywood this month, and the unusual count of Marketing head changes & job openings in the Streaming world.
