Welcome back, y’all! I am delighted to be joined this week by Maya Rudolph. We talk about the second season of her series Loot, in which she co-stars alongside Michaela Jae Rodriguez, Joel Kim Booster, Nat Faxon and more. After coming up on Saturday Night Live and guest starring on virtually every great comedy of the past two decades, Rudolph says, “I feel far funnier among funny people as opposed to being the center of something.” As Loot emerges as a true workplace comedy in its second season, it allows her to do just that.
For this week’s industry banter, I invited my friend Joe Reid, co-host of the This Had Oscar Buzz podcast and Vulture’s Gold Rush columnist, to join me to discuss the Cannes Film Festival winners, and which titles could follow in the footsteps of The Zone of Interest and Anatomy of a Fall to major Oscar success. We get into everything from Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or winning Anora to Francis Ford Coppola’s lavish head-scratcher Megalopolis.
