☀️ Cable Bundle Q3 Melt Continues as DISH Stock Craters
Iger sets Christine McCarthy replacement / NBA Cup scores ho-hum debut & NBA sets RSN deal for the season
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on TUESDAY Nov. 7, 2023.
Where remember - it’s Election Day! It’s arguably as important to vote in these off years that often have your local officials up for election and ballot measures as it is in presidential years… so vote early and vote often folks!
SO: SAG & AMPTP talked into the evening last night - err, virtually (Zaz & Iger have to stay in their earnings call prep bunkers). Nothing official announced for today, but more to come.
PLUS: DISNEY definitely gave promo airtime to The Marvels in MNF🏈 last night on ABC/ESPN… including a new trailer spot debut at halftime. We’ll see how it spends outside of its empire on TNF this Thursday on AMAZON.
AND: NETFLIX aired a commercial in the game with… nun-centric creative (🤷♂️), promoting its sports docuseries during MNF - although there was no mention of their big F1/PGA Vegas live golf event next week in it 🤔.
OH: Good news everybody! Rents are falling in… Boise City, ID. Down over -6% in a year. Just a matter of time before NY and LA become more livable again.
BUT: Don’t worry - it seems a certain contingent of New Yorkers still have some walking around money… as the NY Times brings you inside the current state of the world of $150k private chefs, rotating nannys, $350 revitalizing IV services, five-figure “wellness clubs” and more. Oddly none of these are in Queens 🤷♂️.
THEN: WEWORK made the bankruptcy thing official. Yah, $18.7 Billion in debt and $15 Billion in assets’ll do it.
The company will continue to operate while it stiffs folks it owes money to, sheds numerous leases, and pays out PE investors as much as possible to try and find a way forward.
This will only affect its US/CAN locations, as yes, the Doomsday Clock on the U.S. office space real estate market just ticked a little closer to midnight.
ALSO: Next week’s SNL, as WB gets a two-fer with Chalamet this week, and Momoa next week... 🤞 either will be able to mention his upcoming WB film.
IN TODAY’S EDITION:
A busy day in sports media, as the NBA sets a deal to keep teams on RSNs for the season (better get started working on that 2024 season plan)… and has a meh debut with NBA Cup audience #s.
DISH stock has worst day ever, as Q3 cable melt continues this week.
Iger goes outside the industry for his new CFO, who gets a pretty nice payday, as CHERNIN ENT trims exec ranks.
SPOTIFY makes payment adjustments, getting paid on social media has a bad day as does Zuck’s knee, and much more.
