☀️CAA's New Investment Bank - What's the Play?
NETFLIX-NBA talks / Denzel epic film / CBS sets return to new programming plan
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on TUESDAY Nov. 14, 2023.
Where the NFL kept the weekend on-brand last night, closing out week 10 with the sixth game decided by a game-ending field goal kick with little time remaining last night.
Kudos to DENVER who has turned from a joke into a 4-5 team. But uh…. yeah, sorry BUFFALO - welcome to 5-5.
PLUS: Another kudos goes out to the single female homebuyer demo - single women purchased homes at 2X the rate of single men last year, according to new NATIONAL ASSOCIATION of REALTORS data (although most homebuyers are married couples by far).
ALTHOUGH: No kudos for U.S. housing inventory, as recently sold homes were on the market for a median of just two weeks 🤯, and typically sold for 100% of the final listing price, tying a record from 2022.
THEN: Don’t worry - YOUTUBE has solved the AI fake video problem. They’re using the honor system. People & creators are being asked to note if a video was AI generated when they upload it. If not, they “may” face “content removal, suspension from the YouTube Partner Program, or other penalties.” So if you’re not in the Partner Program, post away folks.
It’s also expanding its “privacy request process” so if you see a video that is falsely using your image or voice… you can lodge a complaint to have it taken down. No word on how many more people YOUTUBE plans to hire to handle this volume in a year.
OH: Such notation that what you’re seeing is AI generated will largely be noted in the description metadata for a video which… everyone reads (or even sees) of course.
BTW: Some Wall Street firms are back to knowingly doing what they did with crappy home loans that tanked the economy… but this time with auto loans (thankfully not the bedrock of the U.S. economy, but banks are getting rich off of giving people loans they know they can’t afford… and then taking their cars back). Way to keep it on brand fellas! Quite a read.
“It doesn’t really work for the consumer, but it works for everyone else.” - Daniel Chu, CEO of subprime auto lender TRICOLOR Holdings said… to a journalist, on the record.
AND: It’s not a bad living to be a crap college football coach. TEXAS A&M coach Jimbo Fisher #realname was canned in the middle of his fifth season, after a 🤬 27-21 conference record in that time, including 6-9 the past two years… and here’s what FOS reports that the school will still have to pay him out, per his contract guarantees. But ya know, it’s really about the kids. #PayTheStudents
OH RIGHT: SAG-AFTRA membership begins the voting process on the new deal today. Always nice to end positively.
IN TODAY’S EDITION:
More NETFLIX sports conversations, UFC sets gate record, Denzel does his first major streaming pic, FREEFORM dumps another series, AMAZON strikes yet another big e-comm social media deal, deciphering CAA’s new investment bank and… more. Yeah, a lot going on today.
THANKS! To A24 for the invitation to check out The Iron Claw last night in NYC. Insane story… and thanks to the seating I’m now much more familiar with Zac Efron’s physique than I ever thought I would be 👍. Didn’t even need my glasses!
