In September, when Netflix was gearing up to launch the film Love at First Sight, a rom-com starring Haley Lu Richardson (White Lotus) and Ben Hardy (Bohemian Rhapsody), there was a not-so-minor glitch: because of the actors strike, the stars weren’t on hand to promote the movie.

But the film’s producer, Matthew Kaplan, had an idea. Why not have his fiancée and business partner — Alex Cooper, host of Spotify’s Call her Daddy podcast —tap into her audience of “Daddy Gang” members, and ask them to show up for a fan screening and after-party in New York?

“Alex sold out the Paris Theater in seven minutes with the Daddy Gang,” says Kaplan, 39, a still boyish former Columbia University quarterback and Awesomeness Films executive who produced the films XO, Kitty and To All The Boys I’ve Loved.
