A 20 percent drop in production awaits Luddite Hollywood as a new technology remains ours to lose
At the beginning of this year, the thought that Hollywood would be brought to its knees within months by debates about artificial intelligence would have seemed completely fanciful. Yet here we are. And yet, bleak as it may seem right now, in this conversation may be the first steps of Hollywood’s road back to relevance and dare I say, cultural dominance.
As the SAG-AFTRA strike lurches towards a finale — now or a bit down the line — Hollywood stands ready to close the door on one nightmare, and open the door on another.
Barring some currently unforeseeable deus ex machina, Hollywood has some rough days ahead. With studios bleeding cash, the business model out the window and Wall Street no longer interested in funding red-ink quests for market share, the chickens are about to come home to roost on our streaming misadventures.
