NETFLIX passes Go on 'Monopoly' reality competition / HBO's 'White Lotus' finale #s / New Job Tuesday!
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LINKEDIN here if ya like or email me at seanmcnultynyc@gmail.com), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on TUESDAY, April 8, 2025.
Where this is Sean’s editor, David Lidsky, reporting what may be the worst “What Happens in Vegas” story in recorded history, as Sean injured his back at NAB after interviewing CANDLE MEDIA’s Tom Staggs. Never let it be said that moderating at conferences isn’t hard work.
While Sean searches for the right drugs in Las Vegas (wish him luck), I’ll be taking the ball and getting this to you today. So if something’s off, it’s me, not Sean hopped on pain meds.
CONGRATS: To the FLORIDA GATORS for winning the Men’s March Madness in a thriller, 65-63, that I (David) did not watch but for these 19 seconds.
OH: The Dow and S&P 500 are up 3% on the open. Really enjoying Trump’s new reality series — Survivor: Global Economy.
BUT: Good news for billionaires (finally!): They see an opportunity to take companies private given all the market turmoil. That sort of thing would never happen here, though, right? Was Ari one step ahead again?
OF COURSE: Tom Cruise and Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning are confirmed for Cannes. Plenty of time for Tom to plan his entrance.
THEN: NYC is getting a new arthouse theater on the UWS, as the former METRO Theater on 99th St. is getting a new lease on life thanks to grants and donors including Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw’s foundation.
YES: Saturday Night Live and veteran TV journalist Andrea Mitchell will receive honorary PEABODY AWARDS this year. SNL’s already won three Peabodys and Mitchell one. Must have been this weekend’s Ego Nwodim Weekend Update bit that put SNL over the top.
PROGRAMMING NOTE: The Wakeup had a planned off day Wednesday due to NAB commitments. Sean hopes to return later this week.
