☀️A24 Adds Charli xcx To Star Roster
Eggers gets 2 pics in 2 days / NBCU Sets Top Exec Changes / VERIZON’s new #cordcutting data
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect here on LINKED-IN if ya like or email me seanmcnultynyc@gmail.com) and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on FRIDAY, January 24, 2025.
Where in honor of Soderbergh’s Presence hitting theaters today — every year Steven publishes a list of everything he’s watched or read in the previous year, which I always say is a great idea and then . . . totally forget to do.
Frankly, I have no idea how the man also shoots and edits movies, but gotta love that Top Secret! is on this list 👏 — and Jaws is on it . . . 4 times. Plus the Benchley source book, a doc, a “making of” book and a “making of” TV show.
AND: A shout out to the RED CROSS, which is seeing a drop in blood donations/supply with the L.A. wildfires and southern freeze this month — it’s giving away 2 tickets to the Super Bowl to a lucky blood donor if you can find time to do some good and donate this weekend.
OH: Daniel Ek watch 🤑 continues! SPOTIFY’s CEO sold another $29.2M worth of shares this week, making for more than $430M worth of stock sales since the start of 2024.
OR: Maybe he’s just getting like . . . a lotta full-body laser scans from his NEKO HEALTH company, which just got valued at $1.8B in a Series B funding round.
THEN: SZA will join Kendrick Lamar at the Super Bowl halftime show.
PLUS: The Grammys announced performers for next Sunday’s show, including Billie Eilish, Charli xcx, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Shakira, Benson Boone, Doechii, RAYE and Teddy Swims.
SO: META has been blocking and hiding abortion pill provider posts, increasingly so in the past few days, according to some accounts in this NYT piece.
META said some moves were due to violations around certification to do so according to company policies — while others were “over-enforcement” incidents. Hey wait, what was all of that “too much moderation of speech” talk all about?
BUT: If Bob Iger owes ya money, he’s good for it (I can’t believe he went with under 10M for the NETFLIX Q4 subscriber add 🙄 — pay up, Bob!). He made an extra $10M in 2024 vs. 2023 according to a new SEC filing (page 65).
He also topped the payday of JPMORGAN CHASE CEO Jamie Dimon ($39M), which I’m sure he’s going to bring up at the club this weekend.
Iger’s 2024 payday: $41.6M in comp for the 2024 effort, mostly in stock ($18.2M), options ($12M), bonus ($7.2M) and other ($2.1M).
Bob gets by on a $1M actual salary, or about $38,500 every 2-week pay period, before taxes, health insurance and 401(k) of course — I hear he’s retiring soon!
Other top DISNEY brass 2024 compensation packages:
CFO Hugh Johnston: $24.5M
Former interim CFO Kevin Lansberry: $4.5M
Chief Legal Officer Horacio Gutierrez: $15.8M
Chief HR Officer Sonia Coleman: $7.5M
Chief Comms Officer Kristina Schake: $6.4M
THEN: NFL Playoff #funfact — teams don’t keep the revenue from ticket sales for NFL Playoff games. The money goes to the league and is divided evenly between the 32 teams (each team does keep their concessions and parking money though).
OH: Nothing like nailing an 80-foot shot on the same night you join Wilt Chamberlain as the only other NBA player to have a 35+ points / 20+ rebounds / 15+ assists game.
WAKEUP BOX OFFICE POLL
Not a lotta optimists out there about where Flight Risk lands this weekend.
Count me in with the 36% — but more on the $8M side than the $10M side for the movie with the 25% fresh score on RT as of this morning.
