Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect here on LINKED IN if ya like) and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on WEDNESDAY November 23, 2022.
Where Bob Iger took another… just kidding, we’re good for now on news developments. Hope Bob gets to enjoy some downtime with his family tomorrow, and I take a look at the near, mid and long term things he’ll need to make decisions or take action on in THE MEDIA BIZ section below.
But if you need to find me tomorrow, I’ll be briefly checking out the MACY’S THANKSGIVING DAY Parade… in the Metaverse, just as reminder to be thankful that my life does not involve spending my holiday morning having to work on that.
Tonight however - I’ll be watching this (it’s here on PAR+ for anyone else needing their annual viewing).
AND: Here are your INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARD nominees.
ALSO: Q4 Streaming discounts continue… this time a classic: Yes HULU is bringing back their Black Friday $2 a month (ad supported) for a year deal.
PLUS: Many consumer tax prep services have been sending sensitive user data to FACEBOOK according to The Verge (thx CNN Relialbe Sources for the heads up).
THE WAKEUP Friday BOX OFFICE Poll: So how ya feeling on the seemingly quite well-reviewed “Strange Adventure”? 4000 screens, a little over half are PLF (mostly 3D).
“Encanto” did $40.5 Million over the 5-day THANKSGIVING holiday last year… Pre-pandemic, these DISNEY animated THANKSGIVING pics were doing in the vicinity of double that number (“Coco”, “Ralph Breaks the Internet” etc).
Tracking on “Strange Adventure” is wide from $30 Mil to $40 Mil so… let’s roll the dice on the high side:
