1. The Week of Our Discontent

Even after a weekend’s rest, last week feels different, like something changed, some piece of the floor opened up under us.

From nowhere, the heavens poured on L.A. one night. A rare late-season cloudburst swept the streets clean. After a week when it felt like Hollywood was coming apart at the seams, for a moment it seemed the final judgment was at hand.

The incidents were, respectively: expected, overdue, inevitable and/or inconsequential in and of themselves, but collectively, coming after serial traumas before it, it was as if some big piece of the foundation had been battered away.

Whatever all this amounts to it certainly feels like an inflection point sitting among the rubble today.
