Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LINKED-IN here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on TUESDAY Jan 30, 2024.
Where perhaps movie theaters are getting a bit too creative in trying to address the Q1 moviegoing problem… as this new AMC THEATERS Dune 2 promotional popcorn uh, WTF bucket is garnering some attention online.
Sadly not for the movie per se - but more in the PIED PIPER logo way, getting comparisons to certain uh, sex toys and various bodily orifices.
ALSO: Add “Had flight numbers named after me” to Taylor Swift’s LINKED-IN profile, as UNITED AIRLINES has created CHIEFS-themed flight numbers for their KC to LAS direct flights in the days leading up to the Super Bowl… including UA1989, and a UA2287 combo (I presume that’s the couples-only flight).
WELL: So much for global streaming services… AMAZON PRIME’s Nicole Kidmam’s Expats series set in Hong Kong is not available on PRIME VIDEO in Hong Kong.
CORRECTION: PARAMOUNT did indeed have a One Love: Bob Marley ad in the CBS NFL game on Sunday - my apologies to the studio for missing it in the 2 minutes my PAR+ feed was rebooting on my phone during a laundry run. This Sunday, I’ll make sure my laundry is done before the GRAMMYS, where I’m thinking the movie will have a noticeable presence on CBS.
IN TODAY’S EDITION:
NIELSEN’s Top 2023 Streaming lists have some #funfacts yes (Ted Lasso ruled all), but really show the growing value in the streaming business of not just having hits… but shows that people will rewatch for years to come.
Basically, the “syndication gold mine” is still very a thing. Take a look as the numbers, and a look ahead as to how this could play out in 10+ years - just what are we building today that will have legs, and how does NETFLIX’s huge footprint potentially affect their library?
PLUS: The full rundown of today’s project, release date and casting news to know and more.
WHOLLY UNRELATED TO HOLLYWOOD… But this was just a really intriguing NY Times read on South Korean ‘joriwons’, or postpartum care centers for women which apparently 8 out of 10 women in KOREA who give birth book a stay at for a couple weeks after giving birth, to recover and rest while the babies are taken care of by an in-house staff (the kids are always nearby and can be seen at any time), and the mothers are given baby-care training by professionals in house (as well as other optional treatments like massage and facials).
Cost can be $6k or higher for a stay, but some women make reservations at the top facilities as soon as they find out they’re pregnant. Interesting that a U.S. equivalent market for this (to my knowledge) has not popped up here 🤔, although sadly it would be nowhere near 8 out of 10 new mothers participating.
