Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on THURSDAY June 1, 2023.
Where yeah, it’s June. Although after the May we had, I think we’re all very happy to see a new month arrive. Even if ya’ll still seem to be on vacation on the West Coast - this week’s news cycle feels like it’s late August 🙄.
AND: Kim Cattrall will appear in the season finale of the upcoming Season 2 of And Just Like That…
PLUS: My thanks to some in-the-know International readers for some IPL Cricket updates:
5 wickets is actually a decent margin of victory in an IPL match.
JIO CINEMA claims that a total of 120 Million people streamed at least some of the IPL Championship match on Monday. 32 Million was the greatest number of concurrent streams at one given time.
Forget the NFL ‘NICKELODEON’ feed as a bonus - IPL matches were broadcast in 12 different langauges across 17 feeds in INDIA, including multi-cam/pick your own view and 360 degree.
Again, no numbers yet for viewership on DISNEY STAR Linear TV.
WAKEUP BOX OFFICE POLL

4200 US theaters, and a running time of 2hr 20mins here for the animated pic (no wonder the film was just locked less than 2 weeks ago 🤯)
IN TODAY’S EDITION:
With Streaming Ad Tier enthusiasm being a big takeaway from both Q1 Earnings Season and the Upfronts - I thought it’s a good time to see just how much money these Streaming Ad businesses are currently bringing in (where #s are avail), esp in comparison to just how much money was lost in the Linear TV business that these Tiers & AVOD services are theoretically replacing. A #MediaNerd look at math that isn’t very close to adding up.
Peter Rice sets his next act, and Zaz cabinet member David Leavy gets a new role at WBD.
The Rock’s live-action Moana gets a director .
DISNEY says layoffs are (almost entirely) done and more.
