☀️ PAW PATROL delivers as DUMB MONEY crashes
BEYONCE sets concert movie / APPLE kicking F1 tires? / Newsom vetoes strike unemployment insurance bill
Mornin! This is Sean McNulty (connect with me on LinkedIn here if ya like), and here’s the Hollywood + Media news to know on MONDAY Oct 2, 2023.
Where I’m pretty sure even the Swifties were like “Wow… what’s up with the JETS??!” in the surprising nailbiter of a CHIEFS vs. JETS game last night (sorry JETS fans - I seriously have no idea what you take away from that game).
But it was really nice to see Taylor sitting among the real fans in the 400s section 👏. Ok fine it was (presumably) the team owner’s box - but come on, seeing TSwift with… with uh, Ryan Reynolds & Blake Lively and Hugh Jackman watch the game up there would be far more entertaining.
Funny tho - I use this same metal detector entrance when I go to GIANTS games at MET LIFE, so weird 😂.
MONEY WELL SPENT 🤷♂️
UNIVERSAL spent the long-lead Argylle money 💰 in the game on Oct. 1 for a Feb. release… for a film it doesn’t own (although I’m sure it got the NBCU discount). But gotta make a case for that APPLE distro deal contract next year somehow. Guessing the PAR Flower Moon ads start next Sunday?
AMC THEATERS spent the $850k (ish) for The Eras Tour ad in the first quarter… a film that to all accounts is pretty much already sold out for opening weekend. But I suppose it’s a small cost for the ensuing free social media PR from the Swifties to keep momentum moving, 13 days out.
Plus - well, not a commercial… but COLORADO has sold +$14 million more in tickets this year for football games - not a bad ROI for about $6 million in annual salary to Deion (plus bonuses/incentives), especially when you consider BUFFALOES merch sales.
AND: Could Travis Kelce be in any more commercials?? You can now add EXPERIAN debit cards onto his pitchman list in a new ad that dropped last night… followed literally one ad later in the break after his STATE FARM ad. At least his PFIZER/covid vaccine ad waited until the second half, and I think his LOEWS ad took the night off.
Given his CAA representation… can’t wait for his CHATEAU LATOUR ad in the SUPER BOWL.
BUT: Mama Kelce definitely didn’t take the day off - going from the afternoon Philly game… up to North Jersey to hang with TSwift for the evening Chiefs game.
Gotta say her Philly seatmate was fun too.
PLUS: Beyonce is following the TSwift footprint, and is in the process of making a deal with AMC THEATERS to release her Renaissance concert movie in theaters, with a Dec. 1 date. DISNEYFOX’s The Bikeriders is currently the big wide title on the date.
And… well, given this trailer dropped this morning - looks like the deal’s done:
THEN: Here’s the set list from the Vegas U2 show at the SPHERE, which premiered on Friday.
ALSO: This looked like a pretty good comp for how that Toy Story NFL game looked yesterday:

🪧 STRIKE FORCE
OH: CA Gov. Newsom veoted the bill to give striking employees access to unemployment benefits, like those that exist in NY & NJ. He cited a danger of “insolvency” for the state’s unemployment insurance fund. A term I’m sure any struggling actor will remember to use to describe their own funds when asked for a political donation, should their career take off.
AND: Sending a good thought as SAG-AFTRA / AMPTP negotiations begin today… keep us posted when you’re ready to call in Bob, Donna, Ted & Zaz.
PLUS: Just gonna leave this here… a more literal interpretation of STRIKE FORCE. Guessing this was meant as an Elon taunt?
